Madame Alexander Fashion Show

Beatrice Alexander's grew up in an apartment in Brooklyn above her father's doll shop and hospital. When hardships from WWII threatened to close her father's shop, she decided to do something to try to help.

In her parents kitchen with the help of her sisters, Beatrice created a small cloth Nurse doll. The Nurse doll was such a success, she made a cloth baby doll to go with it.
In 1923, with $1600 in hand, Beatrice Alexander started what became the Alexander Doll Company. Beatrice hired neighbors to help with cloth doll production. A studio in Manhattan became the new home of the company.
